If you are investing your time on Twitter you should be aware of your real reach and influence on Twitter. Although my Klout score (fluctant between 55-60) says I have a true reach of 3000 and I’m an influencer, it is truly incorrect. So I planned to find out my true influence on Twitter pinpoint accurately. Here are the two ways.
1. Find out your real follower count with SocialBro
I was planning to write a code snippet with Twitter API to find my real follower count. It turned out that there is already a freeware program called SocialBro doing that. In order to download the app to your computer scroll at the end of this page.
-
Log in with your Twitter account
-
It is going to take some time to download your network data.
-
From top left, choose “Followers” (instead of All Community)
-
Then using the form below, filter your followers. I listed my criteria as follows:
* At least 50 followers
* Following less than 1000 people
* Time since last tweet: 15 days
The result is 1/4 of my followers are real. So don’t be deceived of your followers count, it is not your true reach.
2. Track analytics of links you shared
Have you ever tracked how many people click links you shared? It might not be as much as you think. It is time to see empty half of the glass. Now, go to bit.ly and sign up for an account. You’ll use this to shorten your URLs and it will track analytics for you. (For instance I’ll share this blog post on Twitter with a bit.ly link and I’ll track stats.)
Next thing you should do is to post your tweets on prime time. As the most of my followers are from Turkey, I found out that prime times are 3:30pm, 7:30pm, 10:00pm. (I found out that using SocialBro -> Dashboard -> Best Time to Tweet).
For scheduling your tweets I can recommend Buffer (also an amazing product!) or you can do it by posting your tweets manually on time. As a result, it turned out that I don’t get enough number of clicks as I expected. Only %6 of so-called real followers are clicking on my link on Twitter.
So if you are investing your time on social networks, go ahead and see if you are wasting your time or not.
