Here are a few side project ideas that I dreamed of but decided to not to implement in the near future. Feel free to pick one of them and let me know if you managed to do any of it!

Habit List app for Android

Habit List is a great iPhone app. It is simple, concise and exactly many people need to keep track of their habits. It worked on me very well and I use it everyday. (Remember how difficult it is to get into habit zone. Similar Android apps are not designed well and bad at user experience. Someone please just clone it. (Consider asking permission to original developers of the app, I believe they’ll give a permit.)

8tracks playlist downloader

8tracks is a great startup and it is exactly where you should look for curated music content. Although downloading would be illegal, you can offer a way to obtain media files in an 8tracks playlist.

Find the traitor: who sold our emails to spammers

It is not uncommon that you register a website with your email address and after a while you get emails from websites that you never heard of (and interestingly they do not go to spam).

It is because somebody sold your email address. This happens me all the time and I am completely pissed off at any moment. Turkish companies are really good at spamming.

Idea: You can implement a mail server on a domain that delivers all mails to a single database. For instance you sign up for Twitter using [email protected] and then you associate this address with Twitter on the database (maybe with a bookmarklet). If one day you receive a mail delivered to this address from someone other than @twitter.com or does not contain word twitter then you have just identified the traitor.

Twitter unfollowers reporter

This is a web app, user logs in with Twitter account and periodically it downloads followers list and gets the diff. Each time it finds out that someone is missing on the followers list, it shows the unfollower on web panel and maybe it can send a daily/weekly summary. This happens to me a lot, I get lots of new follower notifications but my follower count does not happen to be increased at the end of the day.

Android SMS backup on the cloud (or eavesdrop?)

Android allows apps to be notified when a text message is received. If you want to backup all your text messaging history on your Gmail archive (or some text file on the cloud), you install this app and it delivers your messages to a remote backup storage. Totally useful for logging freaks like me.

The illegal aspect of it, you will be able to install it any Android phone left on the desk without a lock screen then it can be easily used for eavesdropping until it is noticed. How evil is that?
